For more than 25 years, Trevor MacLennan has concentrated his practice on matters involving individuals injured in accidents. In recent years, he has represented the injured party (the plaintiff); before then, he represented insurance companies and defended their insureds (the defendants) in civil litigation. Having previously worked the defense side of accident cases, Mr. MacLennan knows how insurance companies think and how defense attorneys operate. Mr. MacLennan's first professional employment, between 1974 and 1978, was as an associate at a general practice firm in Northglenn. That firm handled an occasional personal injury case. Mr. MacLennan noticed that, because defending injury cases was all they did, the defense attorneys in those interesting and challenging cases had the advantage of thorough familiarity with the laws, procedures, and evidentiary issues which would shape the outcome of the case. He then became a trial lawyer in an insurance defense firm. For ten years (between 1978 and 1988) in the insurance defense law firm Madden & Strate P.C., Mr. MacLennan gained extensive experience in all phases of civil litigation: analyzing, evaluating, developing, settling and trying cases. The cases for which he was responsible involved all types of injuries caused by all manner of accidents. In 1988 Mr. MacLennan and a partner established their own firm. As part of its practice, the firm represented and advised insurance companies and defended the companies' insureds in civil litigation. In addition, the firm advised and represented one of Denver's three largest cab companies. The firm also began accepting, as clients, individuals who had been injured in accidents caused by others. In this undertaking, Mr. MacLennan's detailed knowledge of how insurance companies and defense attorneys operate was invaluable. This is the area of practice which Mr. MacLennan is now emphasizing. Ever since 1978, Mr. MacLennan has been an advocate in matters involving individuals injured in accidents. In addition to the many cases he has settled to the satisfaction of his clients, he has successfully tried cases to juries in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Jefferson, El Paso, Larimer, Morgan, Summit and Weld counties as well as in the United States District Court. He has also authored appellate briefs for and appeared personally before the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Colorado Supreme Court. Mr. MacLennan was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1947. His initial elementary education was in the British schools system, followed by some schooling in Canada, then completion of high school and college in Illinois.
